The 6th annual Great Manitou Star Party runs from Wednesday, August 27 to Sunday, August 31, 2003. The campsite will be open on the evening of Tuesday, August 26th for early arrivals.

Spirit Island

The GMSP takes place on Manitoulin Island, which is located in northern Lake Huron (click here for maps). The island is Canadian territory and part of the Province of Ontario.

Once again this year, guests will have access to two fabulous sites. Gordon’s Park — in Tehkummah Township — is the main camping and observing venue. Carter’s Bay, with its magnificent undeveloped shoreline, is available for daytime recreation and nighttime astronomy excursions.

The Forest at Gordon's Park

Gordon’s Park has a Bed & Breakfast, Tipi Tenting and Camping. Guest planning to stay on-site must come prepared for rugged outdoor living. At the very least, you’ll need a sturdy, water-proof tent, a couple of tarps and warm clothes for late-night observing. You should also bring lawn chairs, a small table and a large water jug.

The Great Manitou Star Party is built on a simple philosophy — Fun, Friendship and Fabulous Observing. If you’re tired of squinting at stars through urban smog, this event is for you. Manitoulin Island is one of those rare places where it’s still possible to see the night sky as it was meant to be seen!

Carter Bay Beach

Off-site accommodations are available for those seeking a little more creature-comfort. Guests are required to make their own arrangements.

A complete list of lodgings is available through the Manitoulin Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-698-6681. Our star party takes place at the peak of the Manitoulin tourism season. That means most of the available accommodations will be booked well in advance. Call early!
